I am a Cajun Texan living in Baltimore currently and attending the Maryland Institute College of Art as an Illustration / Animation double major. I LIKE PARAKEETS A LOT.

The illustration program at MICA is pretty boss. We have really good teachers and cool assignments and stuff, and you have your core illustration classes then a bunch of choices like visual journalism or sequential narrative or 'eros' (where you just do pinup art and try to create erotic things). It's pretty tight. Animation is not such a good program, it's mostly 3D stuff... but the 2D looks interesting and I'm trying to get a compounded sense of both that I don't really think I can get from just a concentration.
As for graphic design, that is a whole other field altogether, so be careful if you're thinking about getting into that one. I myself have no mind for that sort of thing, but I have a friend who is a graphic design major and he's really good at it. I think the typical assignment is like fitting shapes to typography and stuff like that. It's pretty difficult and abstract.
Yeah the only reason why I woulda wanted to do Animation was for 2D animating. I wont likely be into it in that case if its mostly 3D stuff.
Illustration and Graphics Design might be too different for a dual degree hmm? I was interested in Graphics Design in High School and took classes on Visual Communication, but lately I've not been into it much.. But I figured if I were some how able to get a dual degree in Illust. and Graphics Design, if I cant make a living from my art, then Graphics Design could be a cushion.
Gosh we live decently close, how could we not have an opportunity to bump into eachother and say hi. Even been in and out of Towson a few times buuh.
Btw how do you like the school? I've discussed before that I've wanted to go there, but sadly too poor and cant find a scholarship. Debating if I should still go there or not.
You should come to Otakon 2010. A group of pchatters [Peps, Pcat, Tea] as well as I, [Pande] are going to try to hit the artist ally and make a few bucks together. You should totally join us.

I plan on doing Illustration and I'm torn between graphics design and animation. But I got a year and a half to decide what I want before I transfer.
